A Most Stupendous & Audacious Undertaking

Obama wants the Patriot Act extended until 2013 -- The media's tell-you-what-you-want-to-hear bias

I don't think the media necessarily has a liberal bias, but they do have a telling-people-what-they-want-to-hear bias.

I didn't see this reported in any of the major news sources:

There were plenty of urgent online petitions warning us to tell our representatives not to sign the extension of the Patriot Act.  Impressively, the House didn't renew it.  However, I didn't see any petitions imploring us to write Obama to implore him to stop pushing for the extension.

It doesn't square with people's perceptions of Obama.  Obama was going to stop all those "wartime" government abuses of power.  People don't like to read stories that don't confirm their biases.  I think the news media knows this, and tends to run stories that will get people riled up along their existing biases.  It keeps people coming back, and thus sells more papers online ads.

Don't get me wrong; I think Obama is a far better president than Bush.  However, his actions have shown that he tends to be just as power-hungry and control-oriented as Bush was; he just has somewhat better goals and more mature execution of them.
